Description

My work this semester has been greatly influenced by some of my favorite books on dystopia which I have recently returned to for inspiration; Orwell’s 1984, Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and Kafka’s The Trial. I am also working with the idea of ‘burning’ as a metaphor for the duality inherent in the destruction of one reality and creation of another, as well as referencing the history of book burning.

Increasingly I see truths being eroded, manipulated and the endemic deterioration of knowledge and transparency. In my current work I am attempting to create a visual manifestation of this erosion, influenced by my own reactions to and experience with the current wars, and other world events as arbitrated by the media. I am interested in the place of the artist in this world of informed manipulation as another voice to the “real”.
