Boxcars stumbling North in dreams
don't wait for us. We catch them on the run.

Things you may or may not need to know...
Inspired by a combination of Kafka's 'In the Penal Colony', Louise Erdrich's poetry on Indian boarding schools and imagery from Auschwitz. The image is the 'last stop' on the rail line to the death camp. Both this print and 'Punishments' deal with the inscription of physical and emotional scars on the body, while 'fixation' and 'scar' comment on the parallel scarring of the land.
It took approximately three hours to write out all the numbers, which represent the tattoos inscribed on the Auschwitz prisoners, in numerical order. Then I decided the line quality wasn't quite right and re did it all over again. They can also be found in 'punishments', but are harder to see as they are printed in clear medium over the black at the bottom.
